GRANITE COUNTERTOPS WOODINVILLE WA
This drab, un-extraordinary kitchen was completely transformed by its remodel, yet if you look closely at these pictures, this Woodinville family only made a few changes. The cabinetry, appliances, and layout are all the same, yet the kitchen got a total makeover with the installation of new brand new granite countertops, a wood floor, and a little bit of hardware.
One of the best remodeling tricks for refreshing old cabinetry is adding or changing the knobs and pulls. This Woodinville kitchen hadn’t previously had any hardware on their drawers or cupboards, and though they may have originally intended this to look sleek, it wound up looking dull. These stainless steel knobs and pulls add eye-catching accents to an otherwise plain kitchen, not to mention they compliment the new stainless steel faucet, sink, and stove burners for a much more contemporary look.
The granite this family chose for their countertop looks especially stunning against these new stainless steel accents. The names of different types of granite can be confusing in an industry where multiple quarries will name the same stone from the same mountain differently, but this granite is usually known as either Silver Sparkle or Caledonia. The starkly contrasted flecks of gray, black, white, and water-like shades of greens and blues make for a reflective, dancing pattern. Furthermore, the speckles of this particular granite make it an excellent choice for long countertops such as these because the pattern disguises the seam.
The pattern also gives the backsplash a consistent, unbroken look. We get a lot of questions about whether homeowners should choose a 4 to 6 inch backsplash in granite, such as we see on this Woodinville granite countertop, or a full tiled mosaic backsplash. Honestly, the choice is completely your own, and our clients choose either style with almost equal frequency.
Some considerations for your backsplash might include your budget; a 4-6 inch granite backsplash will be about 75 percent the cost of full tile, and furthermore it can be done on the same day that your countertops are installed. Tiling is more expensive and takes longer. Finally, you can see that this Woodinville kitchen had previously had a 4” wooden backsplash; we were able to apply the granite backsplash over the areas that had been damaged without spending time or money to repair the wall.

What we like
As you can see in the picture, we also applied a piece of the same granite from the countertop to create a windowsill that compliments the countertops and expands the usable area of the sill. The woman who owns this Woodinville home was very pleased with the results and told us to be sure to, “Thank Octavio for recommending it!” Creating a sill like this is a very minor additional expense for what might become one of your favorite parts of your new kitchen!

Our experience was great. We were happy with the whole purchasing process and all the people involved. The measurement and installation guys were professional and did a great job. They were on time with everything. From start to finish we had a truly great experience and would not hesitate recommend them to our friends.
Chris Ewins, Bellevue, WA
On the very first day that we stepped into their showroom, Kurt greeted us and was very helpful. He made us feel very comfortable and took the time to answer all of our questions. Kurt was so patient with us as we asked so many dumb questions. We left that day feeling that this was truly one of our top choices to come back to.

I had a Birthday party a few weeks later and my friends love my granite countertops too! Because I was so pleased, I went back to Granite and Marble Specialties for a remnant (they have a lot of pieces for Vanities or small counter tops) for my bathroom vanity!! The people there are SO friendly, and patient with your questions.

We beat Home Depot, Ikea, and Lowe’s prices EVERY TIME! Large retailers tend to outsource countertop fabrication to other vendors. At Granite & Marble Specialties, you also get to pick your very own slab from our warehouse. If you are able to find the same merchandise at a lower advertised price, please provide us with a copy of the advertisement or written quote and we’ll be happy to meet or beat our competitor’s price.
We are an importer, fabricator, and retailer all-in-one. There are no middle-men involved, so you get to enjoy the tremendous savings and the experience of dealing with only one company, from start to finish.

What To Consider When Choosing Your Stone
We have an extensive selection of natural stone, including granite, marble, and quartz in stock and on display in our showroom. You are welcome to call ahead and make an appointment so we can best accommodate you. We suggest you come with a rough drawing, complete with approximate measurements and samples of any features you may wish to match to your selection of stone.

TEMPLATE” icon=”calendar” image=”” image_width=”35″ image_height=”35″ animation_type=”0″ animation_type=”fade” animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”.4″] After you choose your stone, our team will contact you to schedule a day to come out to your home or business and create a custom template of your project.
To measure your countertops, please follow the steps below:
- Draw a basic layout of your kitchen or bathroom on a plain sheet of paper, as if looking down from above. Please include areas where your sink, refrigerator, range, island, bars and back-splashes are located.
- Using measuring tape, take the measurement, in inches, beginning from the outside edge of your counter, the length along the wall. Then measure the width of the counter from the back to the front.
- Add approximately 1 1/2 inch of overhang on sides that do not border a wall stove or refrigerator.
- Measure the back splashes from the top of the counter surface to the top of the back splash, and remember to indicate the back splash on the layout of your countertops.
- After measuring your counters and sketching a layout, we invite you to bring your sketch to our showroom so that one of our team members can calculate the total square footage of material required for your project.

TEMPLATE VIEWING” icon=”desktop” image=”” image_width=”35″ image_height=”35″ animation_type=”fade” animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”.4″] After creating your custom template, we will place your template on your slab, and identify the best possible layout for correct flow of pattern and grain, ensuring seamless end results and visual harmony.
Our templating system allows us to get exact measurements of your counters. If you are purchasing new cabinets, your cabinets must be installed. If you are not purchasing new cabinets, your countertops must be cleared of all items prior to templating. If you choose, you may purchase a sink from us directly. Any appliances that will touch your countertops including your sink(s), faucets, dishwasher, ice machine, food warming drawer, stove, range, refrigerator and freezer need to be on-site at templating time.

[/content_box] [content_box title=”6. CARE AND MAINTENANCE” icon=”wrench” image=”” image_width=”35″ image_height=”35″ animation_type=”fade” animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”.4″] Congratulations! You have made a significant investment in your home by purchasing natural stone that will last you and your family a lifetime.
As marble and granite are porous natural rock, the stone requires proper care and maintenance to help your counters continue looking fabulous. The use of a sealer will help prevent staining in most situations. Even a properly sealed surface can stain if left in contact with a staining agent for an extended period of time. Therefore, all spills should be wiped up as soon as possible, and napkins or coasters should be set when serving beverages or food on a stone bar, table, or countertop. Soft drinks, coffee, tea, and fruit juices contain mild acids which can etch the polished surface of a stone and stain rather quickly. Stains should be cleaned off immediately with lukewarm water and mild soap. If left unsealed, everyday spills can easily penetrate the surface. The liquid may eventually evaporate but a stain is left behind. When your counters are installed, we will apply a complementary coat of industrial grade sealer. However, we also recommend that you apply another coat of sealer 24 hours after your counters are installed.
Applying the sealer
- Clear all objects off your countertops and clean your surface thoroughly.
- Pour sealer content into a clean spray bottle. Spray sealer across entire surface, spreading the sealer evenly using a small clean paintbrush.
- Let the sealer sit for 30 minutes. If any dry spots appear, apply more sealer to the dry area. The counters need to be evenly soaked with sealer for 30 minutes.
- After 30 minutes, remove all excess sealer with paper towel or clean dry cloth. If the sealer dries and leaves a film, just re-apply the sealer and wipe the surface clean. For lighter stones, particularly marble, repeat the sealing process 3 times in a 12 hour period.
